"Boys" is a song by American singer Sky Ferreira for her debut studio album, Night Time, My Time (2013). It was released on March 1, 2014, by Capitol Records as a free digital download from the album preceding its launch in the United Kingdom. It was written by Ferreira, Ariel Rechtshaid, and Justin Raisen, while it was produced by Rechtshaid and co-produced by Raisen. "Boys" is a pop, grunge, and new wave song that discusses Ferreira's happiness in having found her ideal boyfriend. The track received generally favorable reviews from contemporary music critics, who complimented its overall production.
In February 2014, it was reported that "Boys" would be serviced as the second single from Night Time, My Time, following its lead single "You're Not the One" which premiered in September 2013.[1] Ferreira clarified via Twitter that the track would not serve as the album's official second single,[2] and it was ultimately released as a free promotional digital download in the United Kingdom on March 1, 2014, preceding the launch of Night Time, My Time in the country.[3] Its single cover depicts an orange-tinted close-up of Ferreira, placed in front of a water-textured background.[1]

"Boys" received generally favorable reviews from contemporary music critics. Writing for AllMusic, Heather Phares highlighted the song as one of three stand-out tracks from the record.[7] Carrie Battan from Pitchfork joked that while Ferreira sounds "glum" in several points throughout the album, she "isn't afraid to address [the men in her life] in a purposefully grade-school tone" with the lyrics "Boys, they're a dime a dozen / Boys, they just make me mad".[8] Elias Leight from PopMatters enjoyed the incorporation of "ringing blasts of guitar, played on buzz-saw setting", and shared a similar sentiment with Battan in regards to its lyrical content.[9] Jordan Sargent from Spin complimented "Boys" for blending the "giddiness" of the optimistic lyrics "You put my faith back in boys" with an "electric pulse", which he credited to the "mental and physical exhaustion" Ferreira experienced in asserting her creative input during the production of the record.[10]
Ferreira's debut album was expected to be released late summer 2013. However, it was later reported in an interview with GQ that the album had been delayed until 2014 but an EP with the same name (at that time, I Will) was announced to be release in September 2013. Sky explained via Twitter,
The EP title was later changed to the name of the lead single, "You're Not the One", but never materialized due to the album release date being moved up to October 29, 2013. The title of the album was once again changed, this time to Ny Time, My Time, which is in reference to the 1992 American psychological horror film, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me , directed by David Lynch. The title comes from the quote "Nighttime is my time," delivered by Laura Palmer, portrayed by Sheryl Lee.
"You're Not the One" was serviced as Night Time, My Time's lead single on September 24, 2013.[17] Its music video, paying visual homage to 1983 film The Hungerand set in a high-fashion nightclub, was released on the same day.[18] On November 25, 2013, Ferreira appeared on the program Late Show with David Letterman, where she performed the single.[19] "24 Hours" was released as a free promotional single on the same day of the album's release.[20] A music video for the album's title track, directed by Grant Singer and released on November 27, 2013, sees Ferreira wearing a variety of wigs and lingerie. Natasha Stagg of Vwrote that, in the video, Ferreira "embraces the title she's been deemed by dressing in provocatively infantile accessories" and "cleverly [delivers] the junkie role back in her detractors' faces."[21] Consequence of Sound named the video among the best of 2013.[22]
Leak did not happen after the LA show as there was no physical copies being sold. Instead fans who attended were given redemption codes for a free iTunes download. Seems that her album is currently only a digital release?
American singer and songwriter Sky Ferreira has released one studio album, three extended plays, 10 singles (including one as a featured artist), three promotional singles (including one as a featured artist), and 15 music videos. She signed a recording contract with Parlophone in 2009,[1] and released the song "One" through the label in 2010.[2] It was written by Ferreira, Bloodshy & Avant, Magnus Lidehäll, and Marit Bergman,[3] and peaked at number 64 on the UK Singles Chart.[2] It was followed by "Obsession" later that year, which was written by Ferreira, Jerrod Bettis, Justin Franks, and Ryan Tedder.[4] It reached number 37 on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart.[5] During this time, much of her lyrical content incorporated themes of rebellion and teenage romance.[6]
In music, especially, the year couldn't have been more of a game-changer. As 2000s bubblegum pop, the rise of gloomy nü metal, and mid-00s pop punk all cooled off, the early 2010s geared up to launch a major era in indie, rock, and pop, with a handful of new stars rising and releasing iconic albums in their discographies. Since 2023 has arrived, you'll be excited and surprised to know (and maybe feel the weight of time's passing) that many incredible albums are turning 10 this year. Take a trip down memory lane with us, as we reflect on a handful of alternative records that are celebrating that milestone anniversary this year.
Bring Me the Horizon - Sempiternal (released April 2, 2013)The fourth studio album from Sheffield's Bring Me the Horizon was perhaps their most polarizing, yet necessary addition to their discography at that time. Slowly trickling away from their metal roots with each release, their 2010 album There Is a Hell Believe Me I've Seen It. There Is a Heaven Let's Keep It a Secret left a window of opportunity for influences outside of heavy music. With the addition of Jordan Fish on keys, Sempiternal created a beautiful fusion between poppy choruses and chugging, riffed-up verses that were palatable enough for the non-metal listeners, but still paid homage to their heavier influences. An album that would launch them into global success and one that still returns to the charts because of its versatility, few bands can say their work holds up like this one does a decade on. 2ff7e9595c
